House Rules

Sportsman-like conduct is a key objective of each member at all times. At the end of each game, players should shake hands and thank each other for the game saying "Good game"!

When you touch a piece, you have to play with that piece assuming a legal move is possible. When you touch a opponent's piece, you have to take that piece assuming that's possible.

Players are not allowed to take the king of the opponent - that is an illegal move. The opponent has to take his previous move back and play another move to get out of the check.

Clean-up will start at 4:45 pm. Members should set up the board to make sure the set is complete, replace chess pieces in chess bags, and return bags and boards to front of room.

At the close of each meeting (5:00 pm) Club Members should be picked up promptly in the Library.

If the public schools are closed for inclement weather, Chess Club is cancelled also. Call the library at 860 673-9712 xt 211 if in doubt.

Friends

The Friends of the Avon Free Public Library support the Chess Club and other program's for the Children's Room. They provide us with a budget to buy sets, boards and to have a celebration at the end of the year. If you aren't already a member, please consider joining them.
