Library Volunteer Reception 2006

Volunteers are a welcome addition to the Avon Library providing support services to staff or working on special projects.

Volunteers contribute their time, knowledge and experience in many ways. The Library Board members use their varied backgrounds in helping the library fulfill its mission in maintaining the wonderful library that we have, while also planning for the future. The Friends of the Library run the annual book sale, sponsor programs, produce a newsletter, run the Garden Swat Team, and help the library in countless other ways. The Avon History Room is maintained by volunteers from the Avon Historical Society.

Each Spring volunteers run the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program that the library has offered for over 20 years. Homebound Volunteers deliver library items to those who are unable to visit the library on their own.  Adopt a Shelf Volunteers help maintain the order and appearance of our collections. Numerous other volunteers help answer the phone, assist with book processing, help in the Children’s room, prepare crafts, and compile mailings.

Those interested in volunteering should read the Volunteer Policy, click here, then complete a Volunteer Application Form, click here, and bring it to the library.

We thank you in advance for your dedication and skills that make a difference at the Avon Free Public Library. Volunteer efforts are truly appreciated by all!
