This past December, the Avon Free Public Library received a generous donation from Barbara Nimmich and Scott MacCloy as a gift to Haleigh and Mike Guerrera in memory of their beloved son and Barbara and Scott’s grandson, Rory Michael Guerrera.
Rory, who lived for six deeply cherished days, would be 3 years old now. To honor his memory, the family requested that the donation support music-themed and developmentally engaging items for children his age — a beautiful tribute to the joy he might have brought into the world.
Thanks to their generosity, the Children’s Department has added:
Two new sensory wall panels in the Preschool Area:
• A Rainbow Panel with musical elements, gears, weather themes, and tactile play
• A Caterpillar Panel with colorful wheels, buckles, locks, and moving parts
An expanded set of Storytime Percussion Instruments:
• Two full sets of rhythm sticks
• Sixteen additional Lakeshore drums — now 30 in total — perfect for joyful, music-filled storytimes
These additions reflect the family’s wish to celebrate music — especially meaningful as Rory’s father, Mike, is a passionate drummer — and to inspire creativity and connection for all children who visit the library.
A permanent plaque now honors Rory and the families behind this thoughtful gift in our Preschool Area.
From all of us at the Avon Free Public Library: thank you for your heartfelt generosity. Your love lives on in every note played, drum tapped, and child’s laughter heard in our space.
