Celebrate National Poetry Month!

Tuesday, April 13 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

April is National Poetry Month, 30 days of celebrating the joy, expressiveness, and pure delight of poetry. Please join in the celebration with our three-part Zoom series!

#1 – Tuesday, April 13,  2PM – 3PM  Share your favorite poem!

Do you write your own poetry? Do you have a favorite poem by another poet?  Do you like to listen to poetry?  This is the perfect opportunity to share your love of poetry with others! Please join us whether you’d like to read a poem or just listen.  If you’d like to read a poem online, sign up to reserve a reading time and we’ll put you on the schedule. Info for signing up is below.

 

#2 – Tuesday, April 20, 6:30-7:30PM  More poetry sharing!

A second opportunity to read your own poem, read a poem by someone else, or just listen to some good poetry.  If you’d like to read a poem online, make sure to sign up to reserve your spot. Info for signing up is below. We’ll also be watching video clips of famous poets and poetry!

 

How to sign up:  Open to adults and teens age 16 and up. Send an email by Thursday, April 1 to Anna (akorkus@avonctlibrary.info) or Barbara (bgreenleaf@avonctlibrary.info) In your email make sure to tell us your name. which day you want to share your poem (April 13 @ 2:00pm  or April 20 @ 6:30 pm), the name of your poem, the name of the poet, and approximately how long it will take to read it. We will contact you to confirm. The first 5 people to sign up to read poetry online will receive a lovely journal!

 

#3 – Tuesday, April 27,  2PM- 3PM – Meet Poet Laureate Margaret Gibson!

The series culminates with a virtual visit by Connecticut’s own Poet Laureate, Margaret Gibson. Margaret is the author of 12 books of poems, most recently Not Hearing the Wood Thrush. Her next book The Glass Globe will be coming out later this year. She is also the editor of Waking Up to The Earth: Connecticut Poets in a Time of Global Climate Crisis coming out in April. She will be reading her poetry as well as talking about what it’s like to be a Poet Laureate. She’ll also answer questions from poetry writers and fans.

Note: Registration is required whether you’re sharing a poem or listening to others. You’ll receive a Zoom link a day before the program.
