Elizabeth & Monty: A Place in the Sun Film Discussion (virtual)

Monday, June 5, 2023 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for a discussion of Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift films the week before we speak with author Charles Casillo about his new book, Elizabeth & Monty.  Please register for both events separately.

One of the most iconic pairings of all time, Liz and Monty heat up the screen throughout most of their careers.  From their top three films , we’re going to discuss A Place In the Sun. Please view the film (available at the library or on Amazon or Apple) before our discussion.

A Place in the Sun (watch the trailer here)

Starring: Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor, Shelley Winters, Anne Revere, Raymond Burr. Directed by: George Stevens.

The best Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift movie is definitely A Place In the Sun, the first movie the duo ever made together. They’re young, they’re beautiful, they’re incredibly talented, and the movie (the plot, the dialogue, the directing, everything) is absolutely amazing. While we do absolutely love Suddenly, Last Summer, if you’re going to watch any movie on this list, it really should be A Place In the Sun.

A Place In the Sun follows a man (Clift) who works his way up in business while falling in love with two girls: a fellow co-worker (Winters) and a beautiful socialite (Taylor). Drama ensues once he finally gets the socialite’s attention, especially when his former girlfriend announces her pregnancy. Absolutely stunning, this movie is.
