In Algorithms We Trust. But Should We?

Algorithms are the engines of social media. It’s what makes platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok function and be engaging.
Yet, most of us vaguely know how algorithms work and how they can affect us. Algorithms are becoming more powerful every day, but the question is, should we trust this artificial intelligence to continue shaping society?

Adam Chiara is an Applied Associate Professor in the School of Communication and a multimedia storyteller. He teaches courses in social media, public relations, and digital media. As an authority on media-related issues, he’s a skilled communicator who educates the public about evolving topics in the field of communication, especially social media. Whether in the classroom, on camera, in front of an audience, or in his writing, Chiara draws on his vast experience working in journalism, public relations, and politics.

Teens and adults are welcome to attend this program. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Avon Library.
