The American Library Association reported more than 700 challenges to library, school and university materials and services in 2021, resulting in more than 1,597 individual book challenges or removals. This represents the highest number of attempted book bans since ALA began compiling these lists 20 years ago. Most targeted books were for a teen audience and were by or about BIPOC or LGBTQ+ persons.

Join the Intellectual Freedom Teen Council to learn more about challenges and bans including how to have your voice heard. We will….

*Talk about books!

*Discuss and learn how to bring concerns, ideas, and questions to different groups (ie School Board, Principal, Town Council, Library Board, Media Outlets, etc)

*Discuss censorship and book bans

* Make book recommendations

* Hold book discussions

* Host author events featuring writers of challenged books

Share information

*Get volunteer hours!
