The Avon Free Public Library presents Judy, Judy, Judy, a three-part Judy Garland movie series.
Judy Garland was one of the brightest, most tragic movie stars of Hollywood’s Golden Era. During a career that spanned 45 years, she attained international stardom as an actress in both musical and dramatic roles, as a recording artist, and on the concert stage. Respected for her versatility, she received an Academy Juvenile Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Special Tony Award, and was the first woman to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year for her 1961 live recording Judy at Carnegie Hall.
The series begins on Tuesday, March 3 at 1:30 pm with the new award-winning biopic Judy starring Renée Zellweger. The film examines Garland through the prism of a late-in-life UK engagement peppered with flashbacks to key moments in her early years as a child star. (2019 ; 2 hrs., PG-13)
Second in the series is Meet Me in St. Louis on Tuesday, March 17 at 1:30 pm. The Oscar-nominated MGM romantic musical, released in 1944, is one of Garland’s most popular films. She stars as a St. Louis teen whose world is turned upside down when she learns her family might move to New York. (1944, 1 hr. and 53 min, Not Rated)
The series concludes with A Star is Born on Tuesday, March 31 at 1:30 pm. The film, a remake of the 1937 picture of the same name, stars Garland as Esther Blodgett. Garland was nominated for a best actress Oscar, and Esther become one of her most iconic roles, though it would also be her last major movie role. (1954 ; 2 hrs. and 34 min. ; Rated PG)
