An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until Wednesday, October 14, 2020

All films are available for checkout at the library, or for home viewing on Amazon Prime.
Discussions will take place on Zoom at 7:00 pm on Wednesdays, 9/23-10/14. 

Communication Professor Bob Kagan, of CCSU and University of Hartford, will lead these discussions.

September 23
The Godfather, 1972- Available from the library, and on Amazon Prime
This American classic features great performances by Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and Diane Keaton. Follow the rise of the Corleone family in 1940’s New York as they establish their empire and gradually move their business interests to Las Vegas.

September 30
Do the Right Thing, 1989, Available from the library, and on Amazon Prime
Spike Lee’s masterpiece explores racial tensions during a single day in Brooklyn. This explosive
film is as timely today as it was when it was released over 30 years ago.

October 7
Lone Star, 1996, Available from the library, and on Amazon Prime
Independent filmmaker John Sayles is at his best directing this murder mystery set in a small Texas border town.Watch as Sayles uses the mystery to explore racial stereotypes, cultural differences and small town prejudices in this little known gem.

October 14
In the Bedroom, 2001, Available from the library, and on Amazon Prime
Based on a novel by Andre Dubos, this family drama, in the words of Roger Ebert, “Involves love and violence, and even some thriller elements, but it is not about those things. It is about two people so trapped in opposition that one of them must break.” Superb performances by Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson makes this one of the best films of 2001.
