“Let Kindness Bloom” Rock Painting with Lindsey’s Craft Studio

Join Lindsey’s Craft Studio and learn to paint this spring daisy design onto any rock you find in nature. Steady hands a plus, but not a must! Ages 12 and up. For this activity, you will need a rock you can hold in your hand (washed clean of any dirt, and fully dried), a very small brush for details and lettering, a water cup for rinsing, paper towels or a rag for blotting, and the following colors of acrylic or all-surface paint: white, bright yellow, bright green, navy blue, deep purple. Acrylic paint will wash off, so only use acrylic paint if your rock will be used indoors only. All-surface paint can be left outdoors, however you should still seal your creation with spray polyurethane or clear coat of some kind before leaving it outside for any length of time. Don’t forget to protect your work surface from paint spills before we begin, as acrylic and all-surface paint both stain surfaces permanently.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Avon Library.

Please register and a Zoom link will be sent to you before the event.

Secret London: A Virtual Tour with Dr. Richard Benfield

“He who is tired of London is tired of life itself” said Dr. Johnson in 1777. This of course suggests that there is a myriad of attractions and events for the visitor to London to see. But most visitors only see the more famous Tower of London, royal palaces, royal parks, and the world-class museums. On this tour we will look at twenty historic places and attractions that most visitors to London are not only unaware of but also whose location is unknown. From Roman London, through Chaucer’s taverns, to the haunts of Jack the Ripper, come with us for an hour of mystery, surprise and discovery in Secret London!

Presented by Dr. Richard W. Benfield, Professor Emeritus of Geography, Central Connecticut State University.

Please register and a Zoom link will be sent out before the event. Zoom events offer live transcription capability. Please ask a librarian if you would like more information about this service.

Thank you to the Friends of the Avon Free Public Library for sponsoring this program!

What is Reader’s Theater Remix?

It is a fun program where kids and teens will each get their own part in a short story, movie scene, or picture book.

We will practice our dramatic reading  skills by reading with a funny voice challenge (ex. do it angrily, do it like you just ran a marathon, etc). We also play fun improv and creativity games!
