D&D and Beyond: How to Homebrew

Saturday, April 27 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

For teens and adults

As a part of AvonCon, join Jamie Nicholson and March Grabber for a panel where they will be discussing “Homebrew.”

“Homebrew” is content that a Dungeon or Game Master creates on their own, independent of any published material that may or may not being used in order to run their game. This could be as small as coming up with dialogue that doesn’t exist in a setting or and as big as creating your own setting and everything in between. Whether done subtly or in grand gestures, homebrewing your own content is a fantastic tool for giving games more life and for helping DMs and GMs to feel more at home in the world in which they tell their stories.

Jamie (she/they) is a Library Technical Assistant at Avon. She has been roleplaying for over twenty years. Initially, Jamie’s love of Star Wars led her to Storyboard RPGs on internet forums. Though some Star Wars tabletop games existed, they weren’t very accessible at the time which resulted in her need to come up with her own game systems and stories in conjunction with all of the other members of those forums. After ten years of growing experience, Jamie played Dungeons and Dragons. When they accepted a role working as a Teen Assistant at the West Hartford Public Library, Jamie immediately ran with the experience she had in her personal life and started a D&D group for teens. The interest at WHPL expanded to several groups before they moved on to Avon. Starting last summer, she led a roleplaying session for teens using game rules that she created herself, with an original story that she wrote, set in the Star Wars universe. She has dreams of publishing tabletop games one day.

March (they/he): March Grabber (they/he) is an illustrator and comic artist based in West Hartford. A recent graduate of the Hartford Art School illustration program, their work focuses mostly on fantasy, superheroes and queer joy.
