What will we do?
Each teen can briefly talk and share about a book they are reading or have recently read.

When will this happen?
Two Tuesdays a month in  July and August from 4-5 PM on Tues. 7/7 and 7/21, and Tues. 8/5 and 8/18.

Sign up separately for each program you want to attend.

How do I sign up?
Register with an email address someone regularly checks (no school email addresses, ex. @avon.k12.ct.us emails) and you will receive an email with a code to join the Google Meet event the morning of the Tuesday program.

August Teen Trivia Friday!: new date Fri. 8/14 (due to power outages)

DUE to widespread power outages the new date for Friday Trivia is Friday 8/14, 3-4 PM. 

All registrants have been notified 8/7 about this date change.

This month’s theme will be: Random Fandom Trivia

Question categories will be:

Marvel movies, DC movies, Pixar movies, Disney movies, TV Cartoons, and a totally random category.

Open to teens entering Grades 7-12 in Fall 2020.

This meeting will be held via Zoom.

Registered teens will get a link to the Zoom meeting the morning of August 14th.

Sign up required, please make sure to have access to a device that connect to the Zoom meeting.

 

August Virtual Teen Writer’s Block

Open to teens entering Grades 7-12  in Fall 2020 (and Class of 2020 graduated seniors).

This meeting will be held via Google Meet.

Sign up required. Please use an email someone checks.  Registered teens will get a link to the Google Meet the morning of August 12th.

This group is for teen writers looking to find other teens with the same interest. Juliana Spink Mills, a wonderfully talented  local science-fiction and fantasy author runs this group.  If you have a short piece of work that you want to share, and which gives us a window to one of your worlds, bring it along!

This month’s theme is: BEATING CREATIVITY SLUMPS!

July Teen Readers Unite Book Discussion: Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko

Teen Readers Unite book discussion group is for teens entering Grades 7-12 (and seniors
Time: Tues. July 14th, 3:30-4:30 PM.

This discussion will occur on Google Meet.

How does this work:
1. Register for this event.

2. Miss Marisa will let the Circulation Department know you signed up and you will get a phone call to arrange a time for you to pick up the book via Curbside Service at Avon Library.

3. Read the book and show up to the Google Meet on Tues. July 14th, 3:30-4:30 PM.  Then you get to keep the copy of the book!

4. Teens will get the link emailed to them the night before the book discussion, on 7/13.

 

(We are also doing a book discussion of 2 teen books in August, click here to ALSO sign up for the 8/11 discussion of 2 super hero teen books! Then pickup both July and August discussion books together).

Summary of Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko: 
Tarisai has always longed for a family; she was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as The Lady. The Sent to the capital of the Empire to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the Crown Prince’s Council of 11. If she’s picked, she’ll be joined with the other Council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood.
Tarisai wants the belonging, but The Lady compels her to kill the Crown Prince once she gains his trust. Nothing is more important than loyalty. But what if you’ve sworn to protect the one you were born to destroy?
