The Essentials: Public Computers and Wifi

Public Computers
- PCs and Macs are available.
- All computers have access to high speed internet, online research databases and the library catalog, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
- Save your documents to a USB drive, external disk, or the cloud.
- Printing is available: $.15 per page for black & white, $.50 per page for color.

Wifi
Wifi is available throughout the library as well as outside in the courtyard and parking lot.
Most standard wireless devices will connect automatically to the wireless network, but if you have any questions, ask for help at the Reference Desk.
Log in to Wifi
- Connect to the network: Avon Public Wireless
- Accept the Wifi policy to join. You do not need a library card.
- If you have trouble connecting automatically, try switching the Wifi setting on your device off and on.
Take It Further: 3D Printing, Digitization, and Creation

Digitization Station
Do you have boxes of old photos and videos? Don’t let them get left behind! The Digitization Station can help preserve, organize, and share your memories.
Located in the computer area on the 1st floor, this computer station has:
- DVD/VCR player and 8mm film converter to convert old home movies
- Record/cassette player to convert old audio recordings
- Flatbed scanner to scan images and slides
- Floppy disk drive to access old computer files
- Adobe Photoshop Elements and GIMP to edit images
- Adobe Premiere Elements to edit video
- Audacity to edit audio
- Microsoft Office for documents

The Library has a Bambu Lab X1C 3D Printer in the Computer Lab. Check our Events page for related programs or contact the Reference Department or the Technology Librarian with any questions.

Library Connection Mobile app
The Library Connection Mobile app gives you access to many of Avon Library’s resources, all in one place. Store a digital copy of your library card, search our catalog and place holds, check your library account, see upcoming library events and more! Download the app by going to the Android Google Play Store or the Apple App Store and search for Library Connection Mobile.
Launch the app and then enter your library card number and PIN to get started. For assistance, please ask at the Reference Desk or reach out by phone (860-673-9712 x4) or via email.

LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com)
Learn relevant, professional skills on LinkedIn Learning. With your Avon Library card number and PIN, you can access more than 16,000 online courses in seven languages taught by expert instructors with real world experience. Popular topics include leadership, project management, cloud computing, Microsoft products, and web development.

App available: LinkedIn Learning is available in the App Store for both Android and iOS devices. Download those from the Google Play or App Store.
When using an app, you will be prompted for your library ID. The library ID for Avon Free Public Library is afpl.

Mango Languages teaches real conversations in over 60 languages and makes it fun too! Free mobile apps, easy progress tracking and film based learning make it one of the most popular language learning programs.
Apps available in the App store for both iOS and Android devices.

Udemy
Udemy is an online learning platform for adults who want to improve work-related skills or further develop a personal interest. Users can search through thousands of continuously updated, on-demand video courses across 75 categories in business, technology, design, and more, including courses taught by native speakers in 12 languages. All courses are taught by world-class instructors and offer a tailor-made learning experience for those who want to learn new technologies and skills to stay competitive in a changing workforce.
The first time you use Udemy, you will need to create an account. If prompted, enter your Avon Library barcode and then click Sign in/Create an Udemy Account. Scroll to the bottom of that page and select Sign up to create your account.
