COVID-19 and Library Services

Avon Library is closely monitoring news about the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Connecticut and is in contact with the Town of Avon and the Farmington Valley Health District to plan our response.  As the situation is changing rapidly, our response may change as well, so please check our website, social media accounts, or call the library at 860-673-9712 for the most up to date information.

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020 the library building was closed to the public indefinitely.  This closure was in conjunction with the Avon Public Schools and the Avon Senior Center and intended to limit the community transmission of the virus.  Since then, we have been re-instituting limited services while ensuring the health and safety of the public and staff.

Our bookdrops remained open to return materials, but no overdue fines were charged during the time the library is closed to the public.

Library staff continued reporting to work so we could respond to your emails and phone calls.  We also began offering curbside pickup of library materials in mid-May 2020.  Simply call the library at 860-673-9712 to request materials or place your own holds from home in the Library Catalog.  Once the items are ready, you will be notified, and you can call the Library to schedule an appointment for pickup.

Beginning Monday, July 27, 2020 appointments for computer use and curbside pickup of computer printing began.  Call 860-673-9712 and press 4 for the reference desk to make a 60 minute appointment to use a library computer.

Effective June 16, 2021, most open hours have been restored.   Check current library hours here.  Limited seating is available and some meeting and study rooms remain closed.

Effective March 7, 2022, masks are recommended but optional for staff and members of the public, regardless of vaccination status, when inside the library.

The library also offers a variety of virtual services, including downloads of e-books, e-audio, digital magazines and streaming video.  Our online databases are available for research 24/7 with a valid library card and you may call or email the library with reference questions or other inquiries.  Avon residents should send an email to librarycards@avonctlibrary.info if they need to obtain or renew a library card.
