The Last Page ! – All My Noble Dreams and then what happens

Small Acts of Amazing Courage
by Gloria Whelan
What I loved about this book was that I learned something.
Not really knowing much about Imperial India in the 1920’s, I relished the story of Rosalind, a British teenager growing up in India.
Her father is a major in the British Indian Army.
Rosalind begins to question the India she sees: poverty, injustice, British rule.
Then, she hears about a man named Gandhi and her 2 worlds collide.
You will find this title in the Middle Reader Section.
And please do not miss the sequel:

The Last Page! The cup and the crown

TODAY’S LAST PAGE ENTRY

FEATURES CHILDREN’S LIBRARIAN KARI ANN ST.JEAN

The Book:  The cup and the crown by Diane Stanley

First Impression:  The cover is so enticing and pretty with Molly wearing a beautiful gown (so unlike the rags she wore in the first book).  I noticed the mysterious raven on the cover of the book also – and I loved the raven’s part in the book.  (he was my favorite character)

So Did You Like It? Yes!  I read it really fast – all 344 pages.

The Story?  Well, this story continues Molly’s adventures.  She is not a scullery maid anymore. Now she is a Lady.  King Alaric sends her out on a quest to find a loving cup.  I have a pretty good feeling that Molly’s adventures have not stopped.  There will probably be a 3rd book!

Do you have to read the books in order? Yes!  I started reading The cup and the crown and had to return it and get the first book: The Silver Bowl.

Favorite part:  When she flies.

Other books by Diane Stanley which the Avon Library owns – which I can’t wait to read:

The last page! Shakespeare’s Secret by Elise Broach

(“the last page” is a “new” feature on our blog, featuring all the new cool stuff we have just read)

Q. Good Morning Megan.  Is it true you just finished the last page of some really great book? Please share!

A.  Yes of course!  I just finished the last page of this mysterious book, Shakespeare’s Secret by Elise Broach.

Q.  Shakespear’s Secret!  Is that the one about the necklace?

A. Yes! t
he main character is a girl name Hero.  And her sister is Beatrice.  Which is cool because Hero and Beatrice are both named for characters in Much Ado ’bout nothing (which is fancy for Shakespeare stuff)

Q.  Is the book long?

A.  No.  It’s 234 pages with historical facts in the back.

Q. So, who do you think would like this book?

A.  I would say anyone who likes mysteries and surprises!

Q. Is it set in Shakespeare’s time?

A. No. It is set in present day.  Hero and her friend Danny are trying to find a 500 year old necklace!

A. Do they find it?

A. I can’t tell you!  You have to read the book.

If you want to read Shakespeare’s Secret – look for it at the Avon Library in the Nutmeg Section.

The last page! The silver bowl by Diane Stanley

Today’s Last Page Entry
features Children’s Librarian Kari Ann St.Jean
(“the last page” is a “new” feature on our blog, featuring all the new cool stuff we have just read)

Q. Good Morning Kari Ann.  Is it true you just finished the last page of some really great book? Please share!

A.  Yes of course!  I just finished the last page of this amazing book, The Silver Bowl, by Diane Stanley.

Q.  The Silver Bowl!  Tell us about it.

A. Sure.

It’s about this super poor girl named Molly who is sent by her father to work as a scullery maid at the castle………………….because of the PLAGUE lots of servants have died…………and she’s only seven when she’s sent there.  Her mother, is “mad” – like crazy mad – because she has these visions.  Well anyway, Molly has visions too.

Q.  Is the book long?

A.  Not really.

It’s fantasy and is 302 pages or so. But wait, so she gets to polish the silver because she’s really good with her hands.  And she has these visions when she polishes the silver bowl.  Something bad is going to happen to the king!

Q. What was the best part?

A. The best part is when she is INSIDE THE BOWL.  That part is so cool.  She has to fight the curses!

Q. So now that you’ve read the last page, what are you going to read next?

A. Well, I can’t decide if I should read the next book The cup and the Crown or this different book called Goblin Secrets.

I guess you will just have to wait until the next Last Page…….

OR

What do you think? Do you think Kari Ann will read
The cup and the crown or Goblin secrets?
I guess we will have to wait and see.

If you want to read the Silver Bowl – look for it at the Avon Library in the Middle Reader section.
