September Art Exhibit: Paper & Paint – a Collection of Collages by Nora Hillman & Gillean Reinders
On display in our Gallery for the month of September is an exhibit by Nora Hillman and Gillean Reinders entitled Paper and Paint: a Collection of Collages. These two Avon artists have combined their talents into a colorful and beautiful show that is not to be missed.

For this exhibition, hand-colored papers are collaged onto acrylic paintings which serve as the structural foundations in NORA HILLMAN’s collages. In the last few years she has expanded from landscape painting in acrylic to incorporating collage into her practice. This eventually led to combining the two mediums. This painting with papers can be spontaneous and often yields surprising results – which is part of the fun. Nora worked in the graphic design field before teaching art here in the Avon Public School system. She has hung many of her former students’ work on these same walls. From educator and cheerleader for middle school art students to a full-time art practice, life has come full circle!
GILLEAN REINDERS’ artwork is inspired by what brings her joy. Drawing inspiration from birds, wildlife, meadows, flowers and the occasional English countryside, she creates pieces that celebrate the wonder found in nature’s details. Using carefully selected papers, textures, and layers, each piece is thoughtfully composed to bring depth, movement, and a touch of whimsy. Her hope is that each piece invites viewers to pause, reconnect with nature, and experience the joy and tranquility that nature inspires. Gillean lives in Avon with her husband and two dogs. When not creating art, she volunteers with Kindness Matters Farm Sanctuary, Dog Star Rescue and Indivisible Farmington Valley, and enjoys walking on the Canton Land Conservation Trails.
