Avon was originally know as Northington, and was part of the larger area that composed Farmington. Join local history researcher Betty Coykendall for engaging program on the Avon and Farmington residents who served during the opening years of the American Revolution, with a special focus on 1775–1777. Drawing from extensive archival research of the Farmington/Avon log books and diaries of 1775-1777, learn who served where in the war, how local life was affected, and how a list of soldiers was compiled. Coykendall brings to life the stories of the men who answered the call to serve!
Beyond the battlefield, this program also explores the profound impact of the war on families here in Farmington. Attendees will gain insight into how spouses, children, and extended kin navigated uncertainty, economic strain, and the emotional toll of separation.
Through carefully researched narratives and local records, this presentation offers a compelling look at how the first years of the Revolution shaped not only a nation, but the lives of the people in our own town.
