Practice your listening, reading, & comprehension skills while playing a game! It’s Literacy Through Play! This 5 week program will focus on the 1995 Role-Playing Game, Chrono Trigger, and have them tackle topics like how a story is structured, what story themes are, and the Hero’s Journey. Children will be tasked in helping make story decisions, guiding where our characters go, and managing conflict. Children will NOT be directly engaging with the gameplay. Rather they will be working together to make decisions for the presenter to execute. The ability to read MOST words independently is essential for this program as children will be asked to read passages encountered in the game. Prior knowledge of the game is not necessary.

Originally released in 1995 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Chrono Trigger is a RPG classic.
It has been 1000 years since the founding of the the kingdom of Guardia and to celebrate a special “Millennium Fair” is hosted. The joyous festivities are cut short when the Princess of Guardia, Marle, is sucked through a time portal. A teen villager, Crono, voluntarily follows Marle through the portal to try and save her and finds himself stranded in the distance past. He must go on a quest to save Marle and along the way will uncover a dark prophecy of a world-destroying monster that forces him to embark on an epic quest across eras—from prehistoric times to a dystopian future—to prevent global annihilation. Along the way a diverse cast of companions will aid Crono and Marle as they travel through time. Can they set history straight? Will they stop the monster, Lavos? And what is the Chrono Trigger?
