In Nazi Germany, Einstein’s scientific notoriety and his public opposition to war nearly cost him his life and forced him to seek refuge in America. During the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the advent of World War II, Einstein made every effort to help Jewish intellectuals and artists leave Germany for America.
“Albert Einstein: Reluctant Superstar” will introduce audiences to the great scientist’s principled stand against injustice and the price he paid for his unwavering devotion to humanity. The performance will begin with a brief recap of his stunning scientific breakthrough in 1919 when his theory of general relativity was confirmed. News of his triumph brought him worldwide acclaim and the status of a “superstar” in the eyes of the public.
About George Capaccio: Before becoming a professional storyteller, George performed in many of Boston’s theaters, including the American Repertory Theater. For 5 years, he acted with Boston’s Museum of Science’s Science Theater. He also worked with Boston-based children’s theater companies as an actor, writer, workshop leader, and artist educator. Building on this experience, George went on to co-host The Children’s Room, a nationally broadcast, award-winning children’s TV show.
