October 15, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, 1974. Martin Scorsese directs Ellen Burstyn and Kris Kristofferson in the story of a recently widowed woman on the road with her young son, determined to make a new life for herself as a singer. This heartwarming film offers an honest and uplifting portrait of a working class woman who refuses to be beaten down by life.
October 22, The Godfather, 1972, Directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Ignoring death threats to the cast and crew, Marlon Brando and Al Pacino anchor a film that has become the standard for all mob movies of the past 50 years.
October 29, Chinatown, 1974, Directed by Robert Towne. Jack Nicholson shines as a private detective hired to expose an adulterer in 1930s Los Angeles. Deceit, corruption, and murder are the order of the day in this classic whodunit.
