Wednesday, July 9 at 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

We’re discussing mysteries in this next session of our virtual film discussions!

View the films at home (check https://www.justwatch.com for options) and join us for a Zoom discussion led by Bob Kagan.

July 9 – House of Games, 1987, Written and Directed by David Mamet. Joe Mantegna and Lindsay Crouse electrify in this film noir mystery
that takes the viewer into the world of cons, stings and grifters. One viewer says the film has more twists than a New York pretzel. Strap on for a fun ride where nothing is what it seems. Borrow from the library, watch on Hoopla, or rent on Amazon.

July 16 – The Lives of Others, 2006, Written and Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Journey to 1984 East Berlin as we follow a Stasi agent who is conducting surveillance on a writer and his lover and becomes enmeshed in the lives of his targets. Outstanding acting chillingly depicts life in a police state where everyone is a suspect. Borrow from the library or rent on Amazon.

July 23: no film discussion

July 30 – The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, 2011. Directed by David Fincher and based on the Stieg Larsson novel, this film follows a journalist and an unorthodox computer hacker trying to crack a 40 year old murder case. The all star cast of Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara and Christopher Plummer will keep you riveted and guessing. Borrow from the library or rent on Amazon.

August 6 – I’m Still Here, 2024. Directed by Walter Salles. Fernanda Torres gives a dynamic performance searching for her husband who in 1970 “disappeared” under the military dictatorship in Brazil. Based on a memoir by Marco Rubens Paiva, her search spans decades as she holds her family together and reinvents herself, never giving up hope. Free on Netflix or rent on Amazon.
