Save America’s Treasures Spotlight: Finishing Touches
As we worked on our Save America’s Treasures Project, we showcased items we’ve scanned, carefully repackaged with archival products, or discovered within the collection. Thank you for supporting our project! November & December 2024: Finish Touches We’re at the end of our two year project! Special thanks to Public Works for assembling our new horizontal display case: The restored Hadsell violin is in its own case, complete with nameplate: This Save America’s Treasures project, by the numbers, includes: 24,512 Avon items from 1800-1900 being scanned and uploaded to CTDA 791 Avon items being audited, repackaged into archival storage, and entered into CT Collections 164 views of the restored Hadsell violin being played 22 months of scanning, uploading, and archival packaging 7 linear feet being added to the history room collection, bringing the total to 305 linear feet 2

November Art Exhibit: Avon Arts Association Holiday Art Show Featured in our Gallery for the month of November is the Holiday Art Show by the Avon Arts Association. Make a point to stop by and see all of the beautiful work on display by the many talented members. Avon Arts Association provides annual college scholarships to Farmington Valley graduating high school students who were selected for their exceptional artistic talents. The Avon Arts Association is a 501 (c) (3) organization that promotes visual art in the Avon area by holding art exhibits, demonstrations and workshops. October Art Exhibit: The Intergalactic Beets Project
October Art Exhibit: The Intergalactic Beets Project On display in our Gallery for the month of October is an exhibit unlike anything we have had before. Come and experience The Intergalactic Beets Project. It is an art/music/prose project that imagines an intergalactic record label distributing music from alien artists from distant planets and galaxies. Incorporated with each piece of art (or album cover) is a playable song from the album, along with liner notes that share information about the fictional artists and the creation of the album. As you walk through the Gallery, we invite you to read about each album’s unique history and scan the accompanying QR codes to hear sounds from the far reaches of our galaxy and beyond. Friends of the Avon Library KIDS & TEEN BOOK SALE
Special one-day Kids & Teen Book Sale!! October 26, 2024, 9am – 4pm. Featuring children’s picture books, hardcover and paperback books, tween & young adult books, DVDs and CDs. No admission fee. Please no strollers in the Community Room.
Friends of the Avon Library BOOK SALE
Friends of the Avon Library Used Book Sale weekend. October 18-20, 2024. This three-day fall sale will include adult fiction and nonfiction books, plus a selection of A/V materials only. (A separate children’s & teen book sale will be held on October 26.) Friday, October 18: 4 to 8 PM – Preview Sale ($10 admission, free for Friends members) Saturday, October 19: 9 AM to 4 PM – No admission fee Sunday, October 20: 12 to 3 PM – Bag sale ($10 per bag of books) Please no strollers in the Community Room.
