From Abacus to mechanical machines to AI, this fast-paced course takes you on a whirlwind tour of computing’s past, present, and future—exploring the inventions, people, and breakthroughs that transformed the way we live, work, and think. The course traces the evolution of computing from its earliest mechanical roots to the digital revolution and beyond. It will examine key milestones in hardware, software, and networking. By exploring both historical context and contemporary implications, the class provides a foundation for understanding the role of computing in past innovations and its trajectory into the future. It will also include some “quirky” facts about the evolution of computing.

About our presenter: Jagdish (Jag) Dalal is an internationally known speaker and author on management, strategies, and technology. Jag is viewed as a “futurist” who aims to thrive and survive in the changing world. In his presentations, he draws on his over 4 decades of experience in senior corporate executive positions with Fortune 50 companies and his partnership with PwC. He has been invited by organizations and governments from over 20 countries – including Russia, China, Japan, Brazil, Costa Rica, and EU nations – as well as businesses, to present to their customers. He has been teaching winter courses at the University of CA, Riverside & Adult Learning Institute (OSHER). He has been quoted and referenced by leading news organizations globally – WSJ © , New York Times © , TIME © , NPR, and CBS. He was inducted into the Leadership Hall of Fame in 2014. Jag is a resident of Avon and is quite active in the Farmington Valley community. He is working with various non-profits in the greater Hartford area, such as Generation Power CT, and is on the boards of national/international non-profit organizations.
He is passionate about cooking and enjoys golf and working out.
